Dr. Sheila McCown taught for thirty years at the elementary level in Ohio public schools. Her undergraduate work was completed at Bowling Green State University where she majored in both elementary education and special education, currently holding permanent teaching licensure in both areas. She obtained a Masters of Education from Xavier University. After completing extensive studies and research in the area of sandtrays Dr. McCown earned her doctorate from Capella University with a degree in Counseling Studies. In addition to her role as an educator Dr. McCown facilitated sandtray groups in the elementary setting for ten years. She has presented on the subject of Sandtrays at the local, state, and national level.

Dr. McCown is an adjunct professor for Ashland University
and offers ongoing professional development for educators
and mental health professionals. Her research interests include literacy, sandtrays, Universal Design for Learning, bibliotherapy, and the English Language Arts (ELA) Common Core Standards.
