The Sandtray Center encourages children to

create.....share.....PLAY...imagine.....dream!

Dear Parents,

The Sandtray literacy experience is unlike anything your child has experienced before. At the Sandtray Center children are exposed to sound research-based practices for extending vocabulary, enriching reading comprehension, and improving writing. Just as important, however, the Center offers a nonthreatening setting where children can enjoy literature, with no pressure to perform for an evaluation. The miniatures, sand, and sandtrays prove to be exciting motivators for children, allowing them to imagine, create, play, and socialize with others, while also giving them an enriched literacy experience. In a time when children are continually 'plugged-in' and bombarded with electronic input the Center is a calm haven. I invite you to visit and see what the Sandtray Center can offer your child.

Thank you,

Sheila McCown, PhD

Featured Books

The Sandtray Center's featured  books change regularly and represent several reading levels and interest levels. The books (with the exception of the 'Chapters' sessions) will be read aloud by the teacher, who will review and model reading comprehension strategies. Children will be discussing the books, and using literacy props to build scenes from the book(s). They will not be required to do oral readings of the book during the book club sessions.
