Sandtray Center for Children
Sandtray Literacy Sessions
The Sandtray Center is thrilled to announce a new session...Tinkering and Trays
Business leaders have issued a 'Call for Action', challenging every adult to help at least one child strengthen and appreciate his/her innovative skills (The Innovator's DNA by Dyer, Gregersen & Christensen). The Sandtray Center has responded by offering 'Tinkering and Trays' which promotes the critical discovery skills needed for innovation. This special session involves building with a predetermined combination of legos, then discussing and sharing with other lego builders, followed by additional lego building. The session concludes with each student building a scene for their lego creation in an individual sandtray. The lego creations will be displayed at the Sandtray Center.

CHAPTERS!
Number of students per session: 1-6
Students read the featured chapter book prior to attending the sandtray session. Using materials provided by the Sandtray Center, students take notes as they read, focusing on making predictions, questioning the text, and making connections to the story. Students then compile their notes on their T.A.T. (Talk About This) page. The T.A.T. pages guide the group discussion of the book. After the discussion students work collaboratively to build a sandtray that depicts the elements of the story. The session ends with students building their own individual sandtray, which may extend the text, or may have a different theme.
Length of session: 1 hour and 15 min
Price: $10.00* per person, per session
